<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />Purchase of Alaska: Seward was the secretary of state; Andrew Johnson took become president after Lincoln's assassination; it was purchased in 1867 (Rory just threw out wrong information to get Jess to slip and correct her.)
George Clooney/Brad Pitt/Billy Crudup - All actual references from the episode "Chris Returns".
Steve Randle - A character in the book/movie The Outsiders (written by S.E. Hinton) about teenagers who don't quite fit in. However, the reference was based more on the actor who played Steve Randle in the movie: Tom Cruise. (My mom was actually the one who noticed that Jess has a very remarkable likeness to Tom Cruise, but only in profile.)
Wayne Rogers - Played John "Trapper" McIntyre in the t.v. series M*A*S*H, which ran from '72 to '83 (one of the few series' to have an actual end). He was Hawkeye's partner-in-crime, a womanizer, and prankster.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - A common book on 10th grade reading lists (unless the school board has banned it). The story revolves around Huck Finn, who is judged by society and society's standards; he is torn between doing what society thinks is right and what he feels is right, in the end opting to do what he feels is right, ignoring society.
