Next I think I'm going to work on my doctoring skills. Putting Jess in a suit... Endless amounts of amusement.

Yum. ;)

I adored the chapter. Review coming later.

And summer reading? So sucks. I read a 600 page book last summer for my English AP class. The book was amazing though. It was just looong. Small font and all that too.

Oh man. Next poster I make, I'm totally borrowing that picture of Jess in the white shirt. I've been wanting to use those ones of him half naked... but that just seems a little out of character.

I've just got Honors English, and last summer we had to a read a 580-some book and do a reading a journal on it. Make an entry for every chapter - or for every ten pages. Either way, that was just cruel. So of course Chilton would do something like that.
Which book did you have to read? I had The Poisonwood Bible. It was... interesting, but it was like the climax came at the middle of the book.

Hee! Oh, the half naked ones. I'm sure you could think of a way to incorporate those. ;)

I read A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. It took place in India. Very sad, angsty, depressing. Seriously. The book was amazing but so damn sad.

I had to make a journal entry for every chapter too. God, it was a pain.

Never read The Poisonwood Bible. Never heard of it actually. Is it worth reading?

By the way, check out my LJ. I have a public post about a Lit Fic Exchange. Maybe you'll be interested. :)

I'll add it to my reading list (which is getting very, very long). And yeah, The Poisonwood Bible's worth reading. It got into Oprah's book club, so it's gotta be good, right? This one takes place in Africa - American missionary family trying to convert the natives. The culture's fascinating, and it's first person narrative, switching between the three daughters and the mother. If you're really into character psyche you would really like it - they're all incredibly well-defined.

Going to check out that Lit Fic Exchange right now!

Huh. That does sound intersting. I'll have to look it up. (My reading list is already so long! Heh.)

So what's Jess going to have to read? ;)

Thanks for joining the exchange! :D

My reading list has hit the 50-mark, methinks. Can't remember, and can't look it up 'cause it's being used as a bookmark at the moment.

I have no idea. Don't what's on 12th grade reading lists. Maybe Ethan Frome. Maybe The Great Gatsby. But those are usually in-class things. I'd do The Outsiders, since that's what I'm reading now, but somehow the reading level doesn't seem up to snuff. So it may end up being Emily Bronte or, because it's cruel and completely possible, The Fountainhead.

And the Exchange sounds fun! Eee! Excitement!

I'm in 12th grade! *waves hand wildly* Let's see what I've had to read...

There's A Fine Balance, Hamlet, we're watching the movie version of Jane Eyre so we can read its dreadful prequel Wide Sagrasso Sea, and at the end of the year, we have to read Death of a Salesman.

That's for AP. The Honors kids had to read Beowulf.

Hey if you ever need an idea for English, I've read a bunch of short stories/poems in my class. We have something called The Bedford Reader, specifically designed to drive students crazy. ;)

I read Rebecca my sophmore year, as well as Les Miserables. I read the abridged version though, 500 pages. You can always torture Jess with all 1500 pages. ;)

What did I do junior year? Oh yeah! The worst book ever: The Scarlet Letter.

Ha! The Fountainhead. That would probably kill Jess, lol.

Eee. Scarlet Letter is on my reading listing. But hey, classic is classic. Gotta be a reason for it.

And my only experience with Ayn Rand was Anthem. Slightly painful, and really didn't like what it was trying to tell me. But my mom tells me that her other books are good, so I'm gonna pick up The Fountainhead next time I'm at the bookstore. It's just looking more and more appealing as the summer reading. And then it would also explain why it would've been semi-fresh in Rory's mind to come up in conversation in the picnic auction episode. Tee hee!

You will be very useful to me, preciousss. Not only for English but for what 12th graders do in... other classes. *shudder*

Psychology. I'm in AP Psych and it consumes my life. I once spent thirteen hours doing pysch work over a weekend. It was the polar opposite of fun. In fact, I'm making myself a study guide for Psych right now. Mid Terms have arrived. *shudder*

I don't like classics very much. I can't get into them. Scarlet Letter would have been better if Hawthorne hadn't rambled on so much. They could have cut half of the book out and the story would have been left intact.

I've never read Rand. Or Hemingway.

Isn't Jess going to be entering the 11th grade at Chilton? Because you began this in Season One and then it carries on into Season Two, right? Either way, I'm always happy to help.

Dickens is the same way, but I wouldn't mind the rambling so much if it wasn't such a difficult version of old English to read. Plus, when it's assigned reading, the longer it is the more you hate it.
I've read some Heminway short stories - liked 'em. A lot of women don't like his machoism, but I like his style, and his to-the-point sentences. I kind of jump between his style and something more... metaphorical. Oy. Need a balance!

Psychology. Fun. I played with Yearbook last year. Instead of letting it consume my life, I just curled up in a ball and cried. This year I'm playing with AP Art - and I'm okay with letting it consume my life because it's fuuun.

And I've been trying to figure out the time frame. But I'm pretty sure I've got it fairly right. Jess arrived on Rory's first day of her senior year. And thinking even harder, I'm gonna have to say that Jess didn't arrive exactly a year early, but maybe like six months - came in halfway into season one maybe. And when Gilmore Girls started Rory had to be one month into 11th grade. So, Jess arrived midway through the school year. Basically, I'm rapidly moving into season two. Eee!

When it comes to reading, I stick to modern books. Or historical books written recently.

Art! That sounds so fun. I can't do art. At all. Writing is more my thing, heh.

Wait. Didn't Jess arrive the first day of Rory's junior year? Because season 4 = freshman in college, season 3 = senior year, season 2 = junior year, ect. *scratches head*

Oooh! I forgot about the trip Rory took to Washington. That accounts for another summer. So both crap and yes, you're right. When I started writing the fic I was going to put Jess in at 11th grade... but then I was like no, that time frame didn't seem right. So. Crap. Too late now because my story revolves around the senior year. I'll just let every know in an author's note at the beginning of next chapter. Thanks for pointing it out!

Art is fun! I drew a picture of Jess last night. In the suit. Now I need to find a scanner.
