Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

"Because once you pop the fun don't stop" - Pringles slogan.

Holden Caulfield - Character from Catcher in the Rye. He was kicked out of prep school. (I'll add to it once I actually read it.)

Jamal [Wallace] - From the movie Finding Forrester. Jamal comes from the slums of his neighborhood, gets by with C grades, but his test scores come back and they're amazing. He goes to a private school (on a basketball scholarship) where he can succeed if he tries to.

Bob Vila - Hosts a home improvement show.

Tim Taylor - Clutzy character from the television series Home Improvement (played by Tim Allen), who hosted a t.v. show called "Tool Time", in which he botched every home improvement endeavor he ever made. Bob Vila guest-starred on a number of episodes.

Mars, Vulcan, Venus - The Roman names for the Greek gods/goddesses Aries, Hephaestus and Aphrodite, respectively. Their Greek names seemed ignored. Their triangle worked like this: Venus (Aphrodite) was set up by her father (Jupiter/Hercules) to marry Vulcan (Hephaestus), the smith god, who was very ugly. Venus cheated on her husband with the better-looking Mars (Aries).

As a side note, what I've read of The Fountainhead so far is amazing. I think Jess is turned away by the descriptions, while not lengthy are superfluous (to most guys), but enhance the imagery greatly. But, I think Jess is secretly turned to it by the underlying themes and messages. He's the boy in class who gets something out of the book that no one else in class does. And, since I've been doing margin notes in my book, I get to pretend that I've been in Jess' mind. Neener neener.

Hey.

I just read your story Ape Lust (I'm Arianna555 on ff.net) and loved it...I promise to review, and did mean to, but then I saw the link to your LJ and figured I'd come and say hi. :)

That you spend so much time typing up these references for everyone...that is a wonderful idea. I know I hate not getting things, and love seeing something in a book and going "I know that!" or seeing something in a fic and doing the same thing. ;) And the ones you use are great...I love how they're varied--cartoons, movies, novels, TV series, mythology... And I love that I both get a great number of them while they're still not all Oliver Twist. That's really nice.

And you are doing a fabulous, wonderful job writing a convincing Chilton!Jess. As well as Rory. I barely thought I'd see the day for one. Hee.

And the title/chapter titles! Brilliant.

I would offer to be your beta if you're still looking, but I seem to be pretty busy lately and I don't want to keep you waiting. :) But if you need someone at some point in the future...*shrug* I can't promise speediness anymore, unfortunately.

And also: The Fountainhead is indeed an amazing book. *nods* IMO. And I think you're right. ^-^ I really like that idea of Jess fighting success, wanting it, not believing it, but getting those underlying meanings no one else is and not entirely realizing that right away. Very Jess.

Great job.

(Sorry for the long comment!)

Thank you for the long comment. It made me smile, and love you for feeding me compliments. Everyone loves positive feedback.

Anywho. You'd be surprised at the amount of knowledge you have when it comes time for a reference. They just... pop out. Or, if you know there's a reference to be made, you can always look it up on the inter net. Wonderful, wonderful inter net. I should name my inter net. I think I'll call it Jared.

And, ya know, I haven't gotten any offers for a beta reader yet. You're the first. If you've got AIM - and would be willing to give me your screen name - I'd love to steal your free time. I can hit you with quick paragraphs and before you know it you'll have read the entire chapter. (Or just IM me at NeverRebel.)

Totally gonna go look you up on FF.net. I know I've seen you around, I know I've read your fics. I'm not sure if I've reviewed them... Bad habit, that.

Love!

I'm here to randomly pop up and declare Arianna one of the most fabulous betas ever. I'm part of the reason she's always so busy. ;) She's top quality.

She's also an amazing writer for someone so young. *shakes fist at Ari* Go and read her work.

Oh and never_rebel? I still adore you and your fabulous story. You have my unwavering worship. Fun, huh?

I could definitely get used to being worshipped.

I've gotten sucked in by Holly Gilmore for the evening. Darn her. But I must steal Ari away from you. Learn to share the goodness so you can continue your worship.

And I totally forgot to log into the right account. Ah well.

the_dark_vixen is my personal account, never_rebel is the one I use just for Literati. But we're the same person. Yay.

Aw, wow.

Let it first be said that I love everyone. =$

Hee. I'm not so good on the pop culture references yet...I even blank on books; it's bad. But I'm practicing. :P And I always love the unusual ones...so cool to see.

Oh, and yes, the internet rocks my world. Heh.

I have AIM. *nods* I'm literati555...IM anytime, I'd love to do that. :D And I'm on AIM practically all the time.

And thanks!

Crazy nitpickiness is exactly what I need. I'll IM you as soon as I feel I've got substantial reading material for you. Ya know, more than two tentative paragraphs of a chapter...
